My pets

One night, about four years ago, I was going to my house with my sister after a party. While we were about to enter to the house, we heard a noise like someone was crying.

Kitty

First, I got scared. But when we found out it's was a baby cat at the corner of the house, I got worried. We couldn't leave her there, so she spend the night at my house. After a week of discussions with my family (and a lot of insistence from me), we decided to adopt "Kitty".

Negrito and Rusio

After a year, she had four babycats. My friends adopted two of them, and we keep two with us: "Martín" and "Charly", but I just call them Rusio and Negrito.

Kitty is strong and rude. She's always fighthing with other cats (or even dogs). But sometimes she doesn't know the difference between playing and fighting.

Rusio always wants to cuddle and likes being around people. I have to take a lot of care with him because he's weak and can get sick easier.

Negrito was the most quiet cat of the world. He was always on the house. I could spend all day playing with him and he never got tired. Unfortunately, four months ago, he died. It's was terribly for me. I still get sad. But I try to think we did everything we could for him.

Its amazing how we can create strong bonds with animals. I feel like they know when we're not feeling well. They stay with me when I'm feeling down and that's why I love them.

My favourite piece of technology

Hello everyone.

I have to say that technology's world isn't very attractive for me. Anyway if I had to choose my favourite piece of technology this would my laptop. Has been with me since my last year of elementary school.Yes! I know it's old but still works. It was a gift from my school and I remember I was very happy with it.

I like it because it has a million uses. You can visit any social network and for my career (journalism). its very important to stay informed about what is happening in the world. I use it everyday to write all the stuff for college, but I also use it just for enjoy: I watch movies, download free music, stay connected with my friends. An advantage of my laptop is that its very comfortable and transportable and I can take it anywhere.
But there's something bad about it: when I have to study, this object can distract me a lot!

Without it, maybe, I would be stressed and everything in my career would more complicated and slower to do.

Why did I choose journalism?

To be honest, I was never sure of what I wanted to be. When i was a child, I dreamed of traveling the world and I didn't care about how I could do it.

When I grew up, reality hits me. In 2011, I was in a public school that had many shortcomings. I decided to form part of communal debates, where we touched issues such as education and public health, the legacy of the dictatorship in our country, and how all the pillars that keep it alive, transgress us. So in this period, with the apogee of the student movement, I realized about a lot of things that were so wrong and realized about how important it was a new democratic constitution for the country.

In the same year, I entered the journalism workshop and participated in the radio of my school. This project aimed to inform classmates the things that was happening in our society. Inform all these issues in the radio, was very rewarding for me, because I felt I was contributing in something, so I also started to work at the collective of my commune "Carnaval Pudahuel Sur", organizing different cultural activities, and making civics classes to children, something lacking in the schools of our community.

when I had to decide what to study, I was confused between being a history teacher or a journalist. I feel that the two were able to contribute to transform our society.

But after reviewing the meshes career at various universities, I realized that journalism offered you many things. I decided to make investigations about those deep problems in our society.

Until now, I am not regret about my decision. But I'm not gonna lie, I'm scared. Here have given me the opportunity to write about what I want, and I appreciate that, but I know out there will be not like that.

In the future, I hope to work in a media that has an editorial line with my ideals, or form one with my teammates.

My auto-biography

Hello everyone. My name is Daniela Sánchez and I am nineteen years old. I was born in Santiago, on July 24th. I studied in two different schools. The first one was "Puerto Futuro" where i did my elementary school. For highschool I went to "Liceo Monseñor Enrique Alvear".

Me and my twin sister, 2001.

I lived my entire life in Pudahuel. I have a twin sister and it's amazing. My childhood was so fun and I have a lot of memories with her. I also have two brothers but they are older and don't live with me. I live with Javiera, my twin sister, my cats, and my parents: María and Elías. They are traders, so they have to work at street markets everyday. It's a demanding work, I think they deserve some time to rest.

I have too many hobbies. I love dancing. This semester I am taking contemporary dance classes. I also like to party and hanging out with friends. Other thing that I love to do, but i think its a job and not a hobby, is working for my commune. For the last five years, I have been working at the collective "Carnaval Pudahuel Sur". We are a group that organizes various cultural activities for the community. For international women's day, we did a commemorative mural with the help of children.

Pudahuel Sur, 2016.

I am studying journalism, because I think that the journalist has an important social role. I believe that showing different realities without fear or pressures from the powerful groups is important to make changes and build a fairer and more humane society.
